This time the Academic Talk and Research Series from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics brought up the topic of electricity, with Prof. Exclaimed Argo Dahono.

At present, more than 50% of electricity in Indonesia comes from coal. The contribution of renewable energy is only around 13%, mainly from hydropower and geothermal. The Indonesian government is targeting the contribution of renewable energy to increase to 23% by 2025 and to 31% in 2050. Indonesia is rich in renewable energy sources such as hydropower, geothermal, solar, wind and biomass. Unfortunately, the location of the energy source is far from the center of demand so it is not yet feasible to build.

The Indonesian government has built the Palapa Ring and Sea Highway to improve connectivity between islands. If we have an electric toll road that connects many big islands, then the big islands can share renewable energy sources. With the existence of an electric toll road, it is hoped that many new energy stores will emerge. Between regions can share resources so that the contribution of renewable energy can be increased quickly.

Prof. Pekik obtained his bachelor’s degree from ITB, while his master and doctoral degrees were obtained from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research interests include power electronics, electrical machinery, and power quality. Pekik is registered as a Senior Professional Engineer in Indonesia. He is the recipient of the Outstanding Engineering Achievement Awards from the Indonesian Institution of Engineers and the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Association in 2005 and 2006.
