ITB Inaugurates the Ibnu Firnas Mosque as a New Facility on the Cirebon Campus

The Head of the Subdirectorate for Cooperation and Career Development at DITLUMNIER, Prof. Ardiyan Harimawan, attended the inauguration of the Ibnu Firnas Mosque at the ITB Cirebon Campus on Friday (12/12/2025). The event marked an important milestone for the campus in providing adequate worship facilities for the entire academic community.

The construction of the Ibnu Firnas Mosque was an initiative first conceived during the leadership of the former ITB Rector, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, and has now been inaugurated by the current ITB Rector, Prof. Tatacipta Dirgantara. This development aims to enhance campus facilities by providing students, lecturers, staff, and campus visitors with comfortable and easily accessible worship and spiritual development spaces.

The mosque is located at the forefront of the ITB Cirebon Campus, directly facing Pantura Highway. This strategic placement enables the mosque to serve not only ITB’s academic community but also local residents and travelers passing through the area. Its presence further establishes the mosque as a new landmark for the ITB Cirebon Campus and the Arjawinangun region.

Architecturally, the Ibnu Firnas Mosque features a design that integrates elements from Aula Timur ITB Ganesha Campus, the historical Masjid Merah Panjunan, and the modern ambiance of Salman Mosque ITB. This blend results in an aesthetically appealing structure rich in symbolic meaning.

The name Ibnu Firnas was chosen to honor the 9th-century Muslim scholar renowned as a pioneer in early flight concepts—long before the works of Leonardo da Vinci emerged. This naming is expected to inspire the entire campus community to continue fostering innovation and advancing knowledge.
