IAGL ITB Distributes Logistics and Deploys Volunteers to Support Communities Affected by the Mount Semeru Eruption

Pronojiwo, Lumajang, 24 November 2025 — The Geological Engineering Alumni Association of ITB (IAGL ITB) once again demonstrated its commitment to disaster response by distributing logistical aid and deploying volunteers to support residents affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru in Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency.

This initiative is a collaborative effort involving IAGL ITB, Yayasan Mandala Srimanganti Lestari, Wanadri Bandung, Mupalas Surabaya, and Gimbal Alas Malang, with logistical support donated by ANTAM.

The Chairman of IAGL ITB, Abdul Bari, emphasized the importance of rapid and well-coordinated response, especially for vulnerable groups.

“In disaster situations, the needs of children must be prioritized. We appreciate the dedication of the volunteers and the support from ANTAM and Yayasan Mandala Srimanganti Lestari. Cross-community collaboration like this accelerates recovery,” he stated.

The assistance distributed includes essential supplies for evacuees as well as special packages for children. In addition to logistical distribution, the volunteer team conducted field data collection, aid distribution, and facilitated psychosocial support and emergency learning spaces for children in affected areas.

Gilang Gautama Putra, Chairman of Yayasan Mandala Srimanganti Lestari, also expressed his appreciation.

“Children are the most vulnerable group. Support from IAGL ITB, ANTAM, and our partners ensures they receive proper protection, emotional support, and basic necessities. This proves that solidarity remains the nation’s greatest strength,” he said.

Going forward, IAGL ITB will continue to monitor the needs of evacuees and coordinate with the regional disaster management agency (BPBD) and village authorities to ensure that assistance remains targeted, sustainable, and focused on early recovery.

This collaboration serves as concrete evidence that the synergy between academia, volunteer communities, the geological profession, and state-owned enterprises can strengthen community resilience in disaster-prone areas.
