R. P. Koesoemadinata

Prof. Dr. R. P. Koesoemadinata (Father of Indonesian Oil and Gas Geology) completed his studies in Geology ITB. In 1960 Koesoemadinata was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Geological Engineering, ITB. His continued education at Queen’s University, Ontario Canada and at the Colorado School of Mines, United States, until obtaining a Doctor of Science degree in 1968, and in 1986 earned the title Professor of Geology. His main areas of concern are sedimentology and energy resources, and he has devoted much attention to the science of deposition of coal. In fact, lately, also pay attention to Geotourism. His brilliant knowledge and experience have led him to become a consultant in the oil and mining industry in Indonesia, such as at Pertamina, Cities Cervice, Amoco, Mobil Oil, Unocal, Elf Acquitane, H. Patragas, PT. Aneka Tambang, PT. Bukit Asam Coal Mine, and others.

 

R.P. Koesoemadinata was chairman of the Association of Geologists (1973-1975) and a member of several international scientific organizations and recipient of the 1994 Special Commendation Award from The American Association of Petroleum. Pak Koesoemadinata entered his retirement in 2001, but until now he is still actively teaching several subjects, such as Exploration Geology, Georisets, Geoconcept, Carbonate Sedimentation and Subsurface Geology.

 

Prof. Koesoemadinata is known as a person whose entire life is dedicated to the science of earth.
