Nomas Kurnia is an alumnus of the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), earning his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) in 2004. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Fine Arts at ITB, which he completed in 2014.
At first, Nomas’s career journey was not directly related to the world of board games. After completing his undergraduate studies, he worked for three years, from 2008 to 2011. In 2011, he returned to ITB to continue his postgraduate education.
During his master’s program, Nomas became involved in various collaborative art projects, including partnerships with artists from the United Kingdom. It was through these experiences that his interest in board games began to grow. According to him, board games share a deep connection with fine arts, as both emphasize creativity, expression, and human interaction.
“For me, board games are like a new medium that replaces the fine arts world in providing creative fulfillment,”
— Nomas Kurnia
This introduction sparked Nomas’s determination to seriously pursue board game development. In 2019, he created his own board game titled “Cine Write & Trade.” The process was far from instant—requiring extensive research, prototype development, and continuous refinement to produce a game that is both engaging and meaningful.
His work eventually led him to Essen Spiel in northern Germany, the world’s largest annual board game fair that gathers enthusiasts and creators from across the globe—Europe, Asia, and beyond. At the event, Cine Write & Trade proudly represented Indonesia as one of the official exhibitors, marking a significant achievement for Nomas.
Several international publishers also expressed interest in releasing Cine Write & Trade, proving that Indonesian creators are capable of competing and gaining recognition on the global stage.
