The 5th ITB86 Bidak Ganesha National Student Chess Championship was successfully held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the West Hall of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). With the presence of parents, coaches, and family members, total attendance at ITB that day exceeded 1,000 people.
This tournament has become a regular agenda since its inception in 2016, serving as a contribution from ITB86 alumni in promoting the development of chess among young students while also supporting the ITB86 G86 scholarship program.
The event was officially opened by Prof. Ir. Agus Jatnika Effendi, Ph.D., Vice Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development at ITB. The ceremony was also attended by ITB leadership, including Prof. Dr. apt. Muhamad Insanu, S.Si., M.Si. (Director of Student Affairs), Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Sophi Damayanti, S.Si., M.Si. (Director of Alumni and Career Development), and the Chairman of the ITB Alumni Association (IA-ITB), Mr. Agustin Peranginangin. From external stakeholders, West Java PERCASI was represented by its Executive Chairman, Mr. Ridho.
Despite initial concerns about safety due to recent demonstrations in Bandung, the tournament proceeded smoothly and securely thanks to strong coordination between the organizing committee, ITB officials, and the Coblong Police Sector.
In addition to the main chess matches held in the West Hall, the event featured various side activities including live performances, a bazaar, photo booths, children’s play areas, and appearances by beloved characters like Spiderman, Hanoman, and the official Bidak Ganesha mascot.
With its well-organized, child-friendly, and sportsmanship-driven atmosphere, the 5th ITB86 Bidak Ganesha once again proved itself to be one of the most consistent, inspiring, and memorable national-level student chess championships in Indonesia.
